Course Outline
Week 1: Orientation
During this week we take care of business,
which includes getting you
introduced to the online workspace and orienting you to the structure of
the course. You will meet the instructor and other students and engage
in general discussions about music, audio technology, your background
with music and audio technology and your goals for the course. If you
have taken the Music Production 201 Course, we will begin right
where you left off with an examination of your previous work and setting
some goals for the current term.
Weeks 2-3: Project Design
Never underestimate the planning stages of a large project. You will be planning your individual project as well as helping to co-design the huge 20-track collaborative project! We will take everything into consideration that an industry professional would take into consideration- as musicians, producers and engineers. These projects will not be for the faint-of-heart, but just wait until the finished product!
Weeks 4-6: Recording and Construction
This is where we really get down and dirty. With projects this large, you are not just "recording", you are beginning the "construction" of a work of art. You will be fully supported through this process by the instructor and your student peers. You will live and breathe music. Your neighbors will hate you. Your spouse or family will wonder where you went, because you will be so engrossed in the projects. We take no responsibility for necessary counseling or therapy that may result...
Weeks 7-9: More Recording, Editing, Mixing, and the Kitchen Sink
At this point, you will be dealing with more tracks than you know what to do with- but that's where this course comes in- knowing EXACTLY what to do with them. Will will explore every avenue of editing, mixing, equalization, effects and processing. You will live and breathe audio. It will ooze from your pores...
Weeks 10-12: Promotion and Portfolio
Not only will we look at more advanced ways to promote your work on a global scale, but we will be assembling your portfolio and demo reel. Even if you do not plan on pursuing the field of audio or music production professionally, you will have complete and finished work to package and promote, or even just to give to friends and family. But we want you to earn some money for your hard work, so we'll help you do that.
Weeks 13: The Final Steps
Actually, there are no final steps. At least we hope this is not your last step, but the beginning of your new career as a producer, audio engineer, musician, remix artist... whatever you dream of. You will leave with work that you will be proud of forever, and will have laid the groundwork for your future. Congratulations! Upon completing this course, you will also get lifetime support from us here at Sound Lab 1. And if you become super-famous, we want a cut.
