Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: What equipment do I need to own or buy to take a course?A: None. The only thing you need to have is a computer with an internet connection and a desire to learn. There are many free or inexpensive audio production tools and software that we will introduce you to, and we encourage you not to go out and purchase any equipment before taking the course- we are going to talk gear, and by taking the course you are guaranteed to save a bundle of money by learning what types of gear you really need- and really don't need! Any equipment you already own will work fine with the course projects.Q: How are classes scheduled? When will I have to be online?A: The only scheduled time you will need to be online is during the discussion sessions, which will occur once a week, usually on a weekend. Every attempt is made to schedule discussion sessions around students' schedules and time zones. All other materials and presentations can be worked on at your convenience.Q: Will there be assignments? How often are they turned in?A: Yes, you will be given assignments once a week. These assignments will typically include watching a web-cast, viewing a powerpoint presentation, reading online materials and completing a hands-on project. Assignments will be due by the next discussion session so students can discuss their work and ask questions. There is no "penalty" for not completing an assignment, but you may be lost during discussion sessions or you might be holding up the progress of a collaborative project. Q: Is there a specific style or genre of music that we work with?A: No. Electronica, Country, Hip-Hop, Polka... whatever kind of music you are into, we'll help you produce and promote it. All musical styles and tastes are welcomed and encouraged. We will accommodate all stylistic needs and preferences.
